Overview of the All Japan Reptile Leather Industry Cooperative
Establishment and History
Established: November 1973
On April 1, 2003, the Japan Reptile Leather Cooperative was unified with the All Japan Reptile Leather Industry Federation, and the organization was renamed the All Japan Reptile Leather Industry Cooperative.

The Japan Reptile Leather Cooperative was established as a corporate entity in November 1973. (The first organization related to reptiles was Fukuroku-kai, founded in 1961. It was succeeded by the Japan Reptile Association in 1967, which was dissolved when the cooperative was formed.) Its primary purposes are: to exchange information on reptile leather; foster good relations among members; and work closely with governmental authorities concerning regulations on the protection of wildlife resources.

The All Japan Reptile Leather Industry Federation was established in June 1980 to raise awareness of the Washington Convention and disseminate accurate information about domestically produced leather products.

Greeting
Greeting from the Chairman
On behalf of the All Japan Reptile Leather Industry Cooperative (Japan Reptile Leather Industries Association), I would like to extend my greetings. Our cooperative consists of 20 member companies primarily engaged in three sectors: tanning, leather wholesale, and the production of exotic leather goods.

Exotic leather—derived from crocodile, lizard, snake, ostrich, and other wildlife—is largely regulated under the Washington Convention (CITES). Naturally, we have made long-standing efforts to achieve a balance between the protection and sustainable use of wildlife and their habitats, often referred to as "sustainable use."

We are also active members of the "CITES Promotion Committee" within the Japan Leather and Leather Goods Industries Association, as part of our commitment to realizing these ideals.

As part of this initiative, we work closely with manufacturers skilled in Japan's traditional techniques to responsibly produce and market "Made in Japan" exotic leather products of the highest quality. In support of this sustainable approach, we distribute the "JRA" tag, which certifies products made under this concept, in collaboration with these manufacturers.

We encourage you to look for the JRA tag when selecting exotic leather products, as a mark of assurance.
